National Auctioneers Day on Saturday, April 21 Focuses on Charity ...

KANSAS CITY -- Auctioneers across the U.S. and world are conducting charity auctions and making separate donations to charities as part of National Auctioneers Day, on Saturday, April 21.

Members of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) have donated more than $4 million to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital since 1995 to support this chosen charity of NAA. The hospital in Memphis, Tenn., provides pediatric cancer patients with the most advanced care available, and always regardless of the families ability to pay.

Auctioneers and auction schools conduct special fundraising auctions for this charity, and other worthy causes in their communities, in April and throughout the year. Perhaps more than any other group, Auctioneers in all specialties routinely use their fundraising skills to help their local civic groups, churches, schools, and U.S.

Counties go high-tech for bids

As the final seconds of online bidding ticked away Thursday, offers came in to Camden County's purchasing division fast and furious.

County officials, however, disregarded the high bids.

It was the lowest ones they were after.

Up for bid were contracts to supply all of Camden and Gloucester counties' largest government buildings -- the county colleges, courthouses, wastewater treatment plants -- with electricity at a fixed rate for up to two years.

It was a lucrative offer considering Camden County spent $2.94 million on energy last year and Gloucester County paid $1.27 million.

"We're at the mercy of the market," said Ross Angilella, Camden County's administrator. "But by doing this, we are positioning ourselves to get the best possible rate."

Camden County, the lead purchasing agent in Thursday's reverse auction, got permission from the state last month to bid the contracts online, said Anna Marie Wright, Camden County's purchasing agent.

Uganda: World Bank to Decide On Bujagali Dam

THE World Bank Group executive board in Washington will examine and make a final decision on the 250MW Bujagali hydro-power project on Thursday (April, 26). A go-ahead by the board will lead to financial approval and disclosure for the project and enable the dam's construction to start.

Bujagali Energy Limited (BEL), a consortium between Industrial Promotion Services (IPS) of Kenya and Sithe Global, a US power giant, are the project developers.
