National Auctioneers Day on Saturday, April 21 Focuses on Charity ...
KANSAS CITY -- Auctioneers across the U.S. and world are conducting charity auctions and making separate donations to charities as part of National Auctioneers Day, on Saturday, April 21. Members of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) have donated more than $4 million to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital since 1995 to support this chosen charity of NAA. Perhaps more than any other group, Auctioneers in all specialties routinely use their fundraising skills to help their local civic groups, churches, schools, and U.S.
Fayetteville begins bidding process
FAYETTEVILLE - In an early morning meeting on Friday, March 23, the Fayetteville Board of Education voted to approve going to the bid phase in building the new school building. The new facility will be ready to open in 2009. In this stage of the planning, the estimated cost from the construction manager for tree removal, the relocation of utilities, and to prepare the ground to build, will cost $1,800,000. As a side note, the Fayetteville Elementary School will not be demolished until the new facilities are open and ready to accommodate students in 2009. The time window to purchase the elementary school to stop it from being demolished, however, is closing soon. Along with the plans for the new building, the board of education also approved to go to bid for the school's new administration building, which would be just to the east of the school's current boiler room.

Slew of flaws cited in RCMP contracts
OTTAWA–An independent audit found multiple violations in contracting practices in the Mounties' beleaguered pension outsourcing scheme, three months after the RCMP dropped its own investigation, the Toronto Star has learned. The KPMG forensic audit, obtained by the Star, looked at 45 consulting contracts valued at more than $7.3 million, mostly tied to the RCMP's pension and insurance division, and many of which appeared to have broken Treasury Board rules and federal contracting guidelines. The audit was completed in December 2005, three months after the RCMP quietly concluded that no criminal charges were warranted against the outside companies and consultants. But violations cited by KPMG include practices that did an end-run around the rules, such as: contracts funnelled toward selected individuals; splitting a contract into two parts thereby reducing the initial price tag in order to avoid a competitive bidding process; and contract back-dating or awarding contracts for work either already done or begun before a contract was signed.
