A CAMPAIGN to create the first "carbon neutral" town in Scotland is to be launched tomorrow in an attempt to kick-start a green revolution. Under the plan, the town of Biggar, which has a population of about 2,000, would grow its own food, create its own electricity and dump no waste. .
Football Manager MMO announced
A massively multiplayer version of Football Manager has been confirmed by Sports Interactive, and will be released on the PC and Mac, though not for a while, as the developer have confirmed the title will not be out in March 2008. While release is along way off, SI are plotting a beta test of the MMO footie manager game which will begin next month. Oh, and the game's called Football Manager Live. Creating a custom team, FM Live will see you locking managerial horns with up to 1000 other gamers on each server. "Imagine a cross between Football Manager, fantasy sports and auctions sites - and you are part of the way to understanding Football Manager Live," enthused SI boss Miles Jacobson. "It's great to be able to announce the game, and we can't wait to see the reaction to the beta when it launches next month." Players joining the game will either be assigned an automatically picked squad, or select your own with a 100K per week wage budget.
Intelsat auction
Intelsat, the world's largest operator of commercial satellites, has hit the auction block, say people familiar with the matter. Its private equity owners, who bought the company just three years ago, hope to fetch an equity value of as much as $6bn (4.4bn) for the company, which already carries an $11bn debt load. .
Victorian family valuables
SCOTTISH women rooting around the hand-me-downs in the bottom of their jewellery box could be in for a pleasant surprise, as a number of factors are presently conspiring to push up the price of Victorian-era jewellery, much of which contains semi- precious gems originating from Scotland. One consequence of this increase in value, however, is that women could find themselves seriously under-insured. To rectify this situation, you will first need to obtain a realistic value for such items and then set about making sure you are properly protected. Royal Deeside was a favourite vacation spot for Queen Victoria and Cairngorm, a locally found gem with a smoky quartz colour, was a popular choice in many Victorian pieces. .
