| eBid Doubles Successful Closings, Adds Videos to Online Auctions
Online auction website eBid said it has doubled the number of auctions that are closing successfully compared to November 2006. The auction marketplace has also unveiled a new design, stating it has "cleaned up the layout, simplified the navigation, improved search, and made it easier to find items you are looking to sell and want to buy." eBid also added functionality for sellers to add videos to auctions when listing items. To add video to their auction listings, sellers upload video files to YouTube and add the unique 11 digit code that each new video is given into the box on the eBid listing page. The online auction site said it has also made other, numerous improvements to the site. eBid is based in the UK. It launched in the US in 2005 and is available in Canada, Australia and Ireland.

Colombian government to offer 13 offshore oil fields for ...
The Colombian government Thursday officially announced that it is to auction oil and natural exploration rights for 13 offshore blocks along its Caribbean coast on Sept. 18. The fields, with an average of 290,000 hectares, cover almost all of the Colombian Caribbean shore except for natural reservation areas and areas already handed to different oil companies, according to the announcement by Mining and Energy Minister Hernan Marinez. He said the area's oil and gas reserves might be rich, but that was "pure speculation" as no thorough studies have been carried out. Previously Colombia has only discovered small reserves of oil, which with the current oil prices in the world market have not been profitable. So far, Italy's Eni Spa, Royal Dutch Shell and Colombia's state-owned oil company Ecopetrol have requested information on the auction process, while many others have approached the Colombian government, said Armando Zamora, president of the National Hydrocarbon Agency, which is the government's oil licensing body.
Richardson bids to buy out Agricore in grain war
WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Privately held James Richardson International Ltd. offered to buy out Agricore United, Canada's largest grain company, Thursday with a friendly all-cash bid of $19.25 a share. Agricore said the offer matched a bid from No. 2 grain handler Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the latest in Saskpool's five-month quest to control as much as half of Canada's grain industry. But Agricore's board left the door open to a higher bid from Saskpool after rejecting an even higher bid of $20 a share from Richardson that would have locked up shares owned by U.S. agricultural giant Archer Daniels Midland, which holds 28% of Agricore. .
