Oil Futures Bidding To Heat Up As Energy Crisis Looms

Oil ended 2006 roughly where it began, at just over $60 a barrel. This reassured the public that all talk about Peak Oil was hysterical blather from a lunatic fringe. It was reinforced by the publication of the mendacious Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) report issued this fall - a tragic document put out by a giant public relations firm representing the oil industry - with the mission of staving off windfall profits taxes and other regulatory moves that a true resource emergency might recommend.

But beyond this debate, in the background, another ominous trend can account for the stalling of oil prices in 2006 - totally unrecognized by the public and ignored by the news media: Prices on the oil futures market leveled off because the Third World has effectively dropped out of bidding for it - and using it.

Signed Rangers Top Auction for Greyhound Rescue Charity

Greyhound Rescue Scotland was formed in 2001 and since that date the charity has been run by unpaid volunteers. They are therefore reliant on public donations to allow them to continue helping wonderful animals who deserve a better life.

As part of their fundraising they are auctioning a Rangers top from 2002/03 signed by the Rangers team that season. There is a link to the Ebay auction here.

Please take a look at their website where you can find all the necessary details if you would be interested in donating or helping out by adopting a dog or fostering one. .

Up to seven bids expected for city hall

POULSBO — The hazy picture surrounding Little Norway's city hall project should get clearer once the April 30 deadline for proposals arrives.

“We're going to have four for sure, but it could be five or six or possibly seven," Planning Director Barry Berezowsky told the city council's public works committee Wednesday.

Earlier in the week, Berezowsky said he received a call from an interested party asking for information about the city hall project, which came as pleasant surprise.

Ahead of the April 30 deadline, Berezowsky said the city's long range planning committee will discuss the criteria that will be used to evaluate the potential submittals.

“We're not going to be comparing apples to apples or apples to oranges," he said. “We might get brownies."

The long range planning committee, which consists of Mayor Kathryn Quade, Councilman Ed Stern, Councilman Dale Rudolph and Councilwoman Connie Lord, will need at least two weeks to review all of the proposals, Berezowsky said.

Auction Revenues Increase 2 Percent, NAA Reports

Gross sales revenues from auctions by the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) members in the first quarter of 2007 increased 2% over same time period one year ago, a study by the NAA has found. If this trend continues, it will translate into approximately $266 billion total revenue for 2007 for the entire auction industry, up from $257.2 billion in 2006, a projected 3.4% percent increase for all of 2007.

This suggests the possibility of a slightly slower growth in the live auction industry in 2007 compared to 2006, when a 7.1 percent growth rate occurred for all of 2006 over the previous year. The first quarter growth last year was 5.7 percent.

These are the findings documented in a quarterly report of auction industry growth being conducted by global market research firm MORPACE International on behalf of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA).

India bids for Asiad 2014

India and South Korea are making one last attempt to outbid each other as the Olympic Council of Asia's General Assembly meet today ( April 17) to decide the host of the 2014 Asian Games. The 45-member OCA, headed by Council President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, will announce their decision tomorrow (April 18) after the conclusion of its two-day general assembly. South Korea's Incheon and Delhi are in fray to win the bid for the games but India sounded confident of bringing back the Asiad after a long gap of 32 years. Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi said, "We are doing our canvassing very well. Many Asian countries are backing us. The next 24-hours will be crucial. We are noting what they are doing and we will do everything needed at the floor tomorrow," .
