Hawks throw down with former Bulldogs coach

Shorter College will welcome football legend Vince Dooley to the Forum tonight. He will be the feature presentation of the second annual Hawks Super Night.

The event is the main fundraiser for the Hawks Football team, which has been on the Hill for two years.

In addition to Dooley, the night will hold a catered dinner from Outback Steakhouse and two auctions (silent and live) containing donated local services, gift certificates and sport items.

Funds will be raised by entry admission, auctions and participation from official sponsors Outback Steakhouse, 95.7 The Ridge and Kevin Snodgrass.

There are three levels of entry into the event: corporate sponsorship ($1,500), table sponsor ($700) and individual tickets ($60).

Bo Hamil, the football booster club president, said "This is sure to be one of the premier events in Rome this year.


CSEB tariff bidding for Bhaiyathan plant gets good response

Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB) has initiated the tariff-based bidding of the 1200-1500 MW Bhaiyathan Thermal Power Plant in Surguja District. This is the first mega power project of its kind in the country whereby the procurer (the State) has called for bids with pre-identified site and captive coal mines and the selected bidder will develop the power plant and supply electricity to the State with portion of certain percentage as third party sale. SBI Capital Markets (SBI Caps), the investment banking subsidiary of State Bank of India, has been appointed advisor by the Chhattisgarh Government

The project will involve one of the largest private investments in Chhattisgarh and is in keeping with the vision of transforming the State into Indias power hub.

The mega power project has received excellent response with 21 bidders, including Tata Power, Reliance Energy, Torrent, CESC, Essar, Sterlite and global power major AES Corporation, purchasing tender documents from the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB).


State bids on line for locals

For the A&M Consolidated and Bryan golfers and tennis players, the road to state goes through Waco, where the locals must navigate rugged Class 5A Region II tournaments this week.

The regional tennis tournament will be played Tuesday and Wednesday, starting at the Waco Regional Tennis Center and finishing at the Baylor Tennis Center. Consolidated will send 11 entries to the regional meet, while Bryan will be represented by two players.

In golf, the girls will play their regional at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Consol team and two individuals from Bryan will compete.

The boys golf regional will be played at Bear Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Tigers qualified as a team, and they will be joined by one Viking playing as a medalist.


Lunchtime markets: FTSE lower on bidding war concerns

Investors' fears over merger and acquisition activity weighed on the markets and the FTSE 100 was 4.7 lower in early trade at 6482.1. The FTSE 250, however, picked up 14.4 to 11915.

Barclays led the blue-chip index lower, down 1.2pc to 741p.

Investors were concerned that the bank would be drawn into a costly bidding war for ABN Amro following its agreed 3.225-for-1 all share bid, worth around \u20AC67bn (£46bn), for the Dutch bank.
